Convenience Store Education - In the mid-1990s, retailers were under fire for high levels of tobacco sales to minors. Sales clerks typically received little training in identifying underage customers. A multitude of corporate responsibility programs competing for attention left the public with little awareness of positive steps being taken by retailers and manufacturers. Walt Klein Advertising assisted in the development of a coalition of retail, wholesale and manufacturer trade associations. A unified message — “We Card” — was developed and incorporated into point-of-sale and training materials. The materials were subjected to extensive testing and research, then produced and distributed by Walt Klein Advertising to requesting retail outlets.
